Kylie Jenner Is Shipwreck Chic in an Ethereal Sheer Corset Gown

“Shipwreck chic” was a phrase that loosely came to life last year. It describes the effortless glamour of looking windswept and drenched, an aesthetic manifested on the runway in the form of distressed and wet-appearing clothing. Simply put, it’s the way one might channel Elizabeth Swann’s look when she emerged from below deck in Pirates of the Caribbean, or Princess Ariel after she washed ashore wearing a dress fashioned from a sail and rope in The Little Mermaid.

Now, Kylie Jenner has put forth another stellar example of shipwreck chic, with the head-swiveling outfit she wore to Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring/Summer 2024 haute couture show today.

The Khy founder arrived at the Parisian venue in a sheer corseted minidress, which featured an even more sheer floor-length overlay layered atop it. The strapless piece was the same color as sun-bleached sand or a pale seashell. Her heels—a pair of ridiculously tall clear platforms with a transparent PVC strap—even each included a large pearl adornment on the toe.

Jenner kept the rest of her accessories to a minimum, opting for silver pendant earrings and a delicate gold chain bracelet.

Jean Paul Gaultier creative director Florence Tétier seems to agree that Jenner fits the bill for a sea-themed trend. Jenner starred in the brand’s Flowers campaign last spring, and Tétier described her as “the representation of a modern mermaid that I was looking for.” The campaign photos captured Jenner emulating a siren, her long platinum hair flying around her face as she poses in an array of floral clothes pulled from the collection.
